This stunning 1959 Buick Electra 225 hardtop was a personal favourite. Dressed in glacier metallic green (so says the brochures but please correct me), it looked like the kind of vehicle a character in Thunderbirds would swish about in.
It’s a car that represents the height of the fins decade but opting for a more delta angled swoop than the vertical fins of the equally exotic 59 Cadillac.
It’s difficult to put into words what these Electras and cars of a similar styling actually look like when you are close up and personal. Breathtaking is an understatement. The space age lines are accentuated by the generous chrome trims and the whole car just screams fly me.
Seriously, this design should have found it’s home among the clouds but I’d settle for a 60 mph cruise along a stateside freeway in it anytime.
Sadly I never got to meet the owners but if you are reading this get in touch as I’d love to add some history to this little write-up.
Enjoy the pictures! Check out this video of the 1959 Buick Electra showing at Weston Park.
